Nazreen Dasoo

Dr Nazreen Dasoo heads the Department of Education and Curriculum Studies in the Faculty of Education at the UJ. For the past fifteen years she has taught values and human rights education to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The masters students she currently supervises all focus on some aspect of values education. In 2005 she was appointed as project leader on a South African National Values Education Initiative, funded by the Department of International Development (DFID). Here 144 teachers in various provinces were taught how to infuse Values and Human Rights education into their curricular. Presently, she holds the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair on a research project with seven international universities entitled, “Learning to live together and learning to be: A multi-faceted evaluation inquiry of an international Values Education program”. Dr. Dasoo has also been invited to be a keynote speaker at various national and international conferences. She has published her work in international journals and some of her modules in Values and Human Rights Education have been translated into Spanish for use in South America.
