Janice Richardson

Researcher, university lecturer and company director, Janice has authored/co-authored a dozen books on digital literacy, children’s rights and online wellbeing. Co-founder of the internationally celebrated Safer Internet Day, from 2004-2016 she coordinated two large European Commission networks: the Insafe internet safety network and the ENABLE anti-bullying network. Janice has worked extensively on education strategy with the Council of Europe since 2002, is a working group member of its Digital Citizenship Education programme operating in 52 countries and assists North African governments on child online protection. She sits on Meta’s Youth Advisory and SnapChat’s Safety Advisory Boards, Twitter’s Trust and Security Council, and the Power of Zero steering committee on early childhood education. With her team, she creates and monitors pedagogical platforms and content for a SmartBus hybrid education programme running in tandem with magicians in Scandinavia and Benelux. In 2022, she worked with UNESCO to publish teacher guidelines on global citizenship.
